Rebooting KulasRN

Systems • Science • Sojourns

✨️Welcome to the new dashboard!✨️

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know me as a Critical Care Nurse Preceptor—someone obsessed with patient safety, quality improvement, and the psychology of why humans make mistakes.

If you are new here, you might be looking at the recent posts and wondering: “Why is this nurse writing about the Matter smart home protocol? Did he upload the wrong file?” No, this isn’t a technical glitch. It’s a deliberate update to the system.

The Common Thread: Better Systems
At first glance, an Adult Critical Care Unit and a Smart Home seem worlds apart. One smells like antiseptic and adrenaline; the other (ideally) smells like coffee and comfort. But under the hood, they are surprisingly similar.

In the ICU, my job is to monitor complex systems, interpret data like vital signs, and intervene before a small "slip" becomes a critical "mistake". At home, I found myself doing the exact same thing. I didn't just want a house; I wanted a system with local control so I don't have to rely on the cloud when things go wrong.

What You Can Expect
Moving forward, KulasRN will feature three distinct pillars:

☆The Clinical: Deep dives into preceptorship and bedside guides.

☆ The Technical: Practical guides on building a smart home. We’ll talk about why Matter is the future, how to utilize reliable gear like Philips Hue for safety, and how to automate your life to reduce stress.

☆ The Personal (Sojourns): Life updates and travels. After surviving pneumonia and celebrating my 36th birthday, I’ve learned that life—like a good internet connection—should never be taken for granted.

Join the Rounding
Whether you are here to become a better nurse or to figure out why your smart lights aren't responding, you are in the right place. We are going to talk about safety, we are going to talk about efficiency, and we are going to try to have a laugh while we figure it all out.

Welcome to KulasRN 3.0. ✨
